Wang Globalnet Project

Term: Spring 2023

Faculty Advisor: Jeho Park

Project Description:

Wang Globalnet is an Asian food distributor that operates six distribution centers in areas where the majority of Asian people in the US reside. However, competition in these areas has been increasing, and the company wants to reach new target markets that they haven’t addressed previously. They believe that the Asian population, especially Chinese population, has been growing steadily and spreading out their footprints beyond their previously preferred cities/states. The company wants to find new untapped markets and determine the remaining potential of currently served markets.

To achieve these goals, the company is looking for a student team to conduct research and analysis on the total number of Asian ethnic populations, historical trends, and forecasting in different US cities/counties/states. They also need the team to find the income level of target groups and how much they spend on food, including grocery purchase, dining out, and online purchase. Additionally, the student team is expected to recommend the locations of new distribution centers based on the size of and distance to markets that can be covered, availability of local labor force, and initial setup cost. Required skills for the student team include data research, analysis, communication, and presentation. The client data includes historical sales data, including products sold, customers’ locations, sales channels, amount, and date.
